Blog #8 Mediterranean Love

Each cuisine has its own specialty. Being a foodie, I love trying out different cuisines and seeing what excites my tastes buds. Well, a part of this also means gaining weight. Hmm, this sounds true but it isn't really true. Like I said, all cuisines have healthy and unhealthy points. And if a cuisine was altogether bad, well that country's people won't be alive today.

Growing up in India and starting to cook a little, I'm getting to understand what all dishes are healthy and super tasty. Well although there are various reasons why I love the Indian diet, here's an article on 12 reasons to love the Mediterranean diet.

1. No Calorie counting needed!
This reason is my absolute favorite and also why I fell in love with Indian cuisine. Similarly,  a fill of flavorful veggies and beans, switching to olive oil instead of butter and swapping bad fats for healthy ones, the Mediterranean diet comes with thus plus too!

2. Fresh food
The focus is on seasonal food that's made in simple, mouth-watering ways. Build a yummy salad from spinach, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Add classic Greek ingredients like black olives and feta cheese with a Quick Light Greek Salad recipe. You can also whip up a colorful, veggie-filled batch of Grilled Tomato Gazpacho.

3. Bread is allowed
A loaf made with whole-grains is got more protein and minerals and is healthier than the white flour kind. Try whole-grain pita bread dipped in olive oil, hummus, or tahini.

4. Fat isn't forbidden
Good kinds of fats are available in nuts, olives, and olive oil. Basic Basil Pesto is a tasty way to get some into your diet.

5. Huge menu
This consists of more than Italian or Greek cuisine. Recipes from Spain, Turkey, Morocco, and other countries also exist. Choose foods that stick to the basics: light on red meat and whole-fat dairy, with lots of fresh fruits and veggies, olive oil, and whole grains.

6. Delicious spices
If you add bay leaves, cilantro, coriander, rosemary, garlic, pepper, and cinnamon, you won't need too much salt since they add so much flavor themselves!

7. Easy to make
Greek meals are often small, easy to assemble plates called mezzes. Plates if cheese, olives, and nuts could be a serve-it-cold casual meal!

8. Wine is acceptable
A glass with meals is common in many Mediterranean countries, where dining is often leisurely and social. Red wine is healthier than white.

9. You won't be hungry
Rich tasting foods such as roasted sweet potatoes, hummus, and even Lima Bean Spread get digested slowly so you feel full for longer.

10. You can lose weight
You'd think it would take a miracle to drop some pounds if you eat nuts, cheese, and oils. But those Mediterranean basics (and the slower eating style) let you feel full and satisfied. And that helps you stick to a diet.

11. Good for heart
Almost everything in this diet is good for your heart. Olive oil and nuts help lower 'bad' cholesterol. Fruits, veggies, and beans help keep arteries clear. Fish helps lower triglycerides and blood pressure.

12. You'll stay sharper longer
The goodness that protects your heart is also good for your brain. This diet consisting of antioxidant-rich foods makes it a brain-friendly choice.

Well, I don't know about you but as I'm writing this blog, I'm falling more and more in love with this Mediterranean diet! I'm surely going to try some quick recipes from this article! Yum yum, I can't wait!

Blog #6 Aisha Movie Review

One of my all-time favorite movies is ‘ Aisha .’ I decided to find reviews of that movie and see how others perceived it as.   Mayank Shekhar, an Indian film critic gave the movie a 1/2 star out of 5. Let's find out why. The critique explains th at the movie begins with a wedding of a middle-aged pair with couples sipping on champagne, tinkling & toasting to good health and white sparkling white clothes. He made sure to point out that white is considered an inauspicious color by Hindus. In this movie, Sundays afternoons were reserved for fancy hats at the races. He claims to have never gone for such imagined circles and found them hyped. According to him, these details were necessary.   He then described how he found the New York-based Mira Nair seem to know more about New Delhi’s upper-class and Punjabis as in the movie Monsoon Wedding, than this director. The film borrows from Jane Austen’s novel Emma. Sonam Kapoor plays the lead role and she’s Aisha ....
